Seamster Park Playground

Seamster Park Update 4/9/18:
There has been questions as to how much money has been raised and how much more we need and what the future of the new playground looks like, so here is a breakdown of where we are currently:
The Seamster Park Playground Committee has been trying to raise a total of $150,000 (this will give us the playground you see below minus the shaded areas which will be phased in later) this is made up of the following:
Fundraising/donations - we have raised $58,031 with another anticipated $8,000 from the next fundraiser from the golf tournament and other estimated donations still to come (register here to bring our total to $66,031.
Capital Money - we are hoping for $50,000, $20,000 of that has already been granted during the fiscal year 2015/16 the other $30,000 was requested for this year in capital but the Board of Finance has cut $20,000 out of that fund and is only awarding us the $10,000 for a total of $30,000 out of capital if things stand as is right now.
Special Revenue - The parks and recreation department has a Special Revenue Account that is funded by program registration fees, depending on how much more money we can raise will determine the final cost from this account, for now we will use approximately $40,000 out of this account.
The grand total for money raised or received to this point is $128,031. This does not include the $20,000 that was cut from board of finance or the proposed $8,000 from the last fundraisers. If we had the $20,000 we would be looking at $148,031.00 and we would be ready to start ordering supplies and developing the bid specs to start the process of the new build. We need at least 6 months to set up the Bid specs and order supplies and have the equipment manufactured which takes several months. Originally, we hoped we would be ready to go for build week the Week of April Vacation 2019 which would be the case if the Board of Finance would have approved the entire $30,000. If the Playground committee is asked to raise the additional $20,000 it will take us another 8-12 months to raise which will push the new build date out to April 2020. I hope this was helpful. Please contact the Parks and Recreation Department if you have any questions on how you can donate or help with the new build as we get closer.

Help support a Playground for the future!

The Town of East Hampton Parks and Recreation Department is asking for your help to join in and raise funds for a new 14,000 Sqft playground. This playground will provide the same square footage as the old playground and offer more play structures that are ADA compliant and meet today's CPSI standards. We have partnered with the company Play By Designs to bring you a state of the art, customized playground. Play by Design is a playground design firm that specializes in working with communities to design and provide safe, affordable, and unique volunteer-built playgrounds for children of all abilities. They begin with the design, then provide project management and organizational assistance to the committee, and finally on-site supervision of the volunteer work force during construction.  The PBD core group has more than 100 years of combined experience leading volunteers in the design and construction of hundreds of community-built playgrounds throughout the U.S. as well as in Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.  If you haven't already, have a look at their Facebook page... or website...  for more information.
The below design was created from the imaginations of the children of our community.  The designers of PBD put those ideas together to create something completely unique.  There is no other playground exactly like this anywhere in the world.  The challenging part is how to incorporate as many of those ideas while keeping the playground safe, challenging as well as aesthetic.  All members of the design-and-build team are Certified Playground Safety Inspectors (CPSIs). They design according to the current ASTM and CPSC standards for playground safety, as well as the current ADA and ADAAG guidelines for accessibility.  PBD have partnered with cutting-edge manufacturing companies where we can include of their equipment as well.  Essentially, you get the best of both worlds; a good balance of custom design and manufactured components.  Both the "ropes course" and "zip line" meet these current safety standards.  Both of these components are manufactured and have been installed quite a bit lately. Please see the attached photos so you can see what they look like.
The community built aspect of the process is priceless.  It brings communities together for a common purpose: family.  It leaves people with a sense of pride, accomplishment, and an incredibly aesthetic place to gather.  A place that was designed by the children and built by the community.
Maintenance is another concern that is also important to discuss. You will find maintenance with any project, but our goal is to keep the maintenance down, starting at the beginning with the design.  Designing volunteer friendly detailed structures with high quality materials.  Over the years, PBD has learned what works and what doesn’t and have made great strides in lowering maintenance, providing the highest quality, sustainable materials on the market allowing playgrounds to last 30+ years.

The second phase of this project will include a $150,000 splash park that will be incorporated as part of this playground. there is no date as of now to install this feature but will be looking to develop this once the new playground is done.
